BEING REALLY WATER WISE: USING YOUR WATER TWICE - With Rory Fort Conversations about living sustainably series
Rory, inventor and sustainability enthusiast who over the years he has built Earth Sheltered houses, designed clever gizmos and worked out how to do more with less. He is currently best known as a designer of the super-efficient "Root Zone" system of waste-water reuse and an expert Green Plumber, will discuss using, re-using and cleaning our precious water when it is dirty, what works, what doesn't work, what works well, and why. Rory is one of those people who needs to clone himself, so much in demand is he! So we are extremely fortunate to have him available to talk to our community about Using Water Twice.

The Deakin Lectures 2010: CARBON DOWN ON THE FARM
How we manage, exploit and protect our land has always had fundamental implications for our civilisation. Might this also be true for our response to the climate problem? Can we really tackle climate change, enhance agricultural production, generate energy and lock carbon into our soils? If so, how? In the interval between Dr Lehmann’s lecture and the discussion between our panel of experts, Michael Inwood will demonstrate his innovative electric ute with which he pulls the Agroplow AD Hybrid disc drill that he uses to sow using No Kill Cropping techniques. * Johannes Lehmann - Keynote Speaker, Assoc Prof Soil Biogeochemistry and Soil Fertility Mangemt at Cornell Uni. * Andrew Broad - Panel Member, Pres of the Vict Farmers Fed. * Michael Inwood - Panel Member, practices No Kill cropping on his farm ‘Toulon’ in Bathurst, NSW. * Stephen Joseph - Panel Member, managing dir. Meeting - POLITICIANS TRAINING
With Federal and State elections looming, becoming a strong and active force for action on climate change in politician’s own offices is really important. But meeting with politicians can seem intimidating or unfamilliar if you haven't done it before. A practically oriented workshop designed to leave you feeling enthusiastic and confident about meeting with councillors, MPs and senators to educate them on solutions to climate change and to powerfully communicate about your group’s actions on climate change. Speakers: * Damien Lawson – Climate Action Centre, former political advisor to Greens MPs, Damien has sat through lots of lobbying meetings. His advice is very useful and he's a fantastic and inspiring speaker. * Louise Matthieson – Moreland Energy Foundation, has run countless meetings with politicians in her previous role with the Queensland Conservation Council and will give us the good oil on how to have constructive meetings and relationships with Members of Parliament. Comperes: * Mark Ogge from Beyond Zero Emissions and Climate Action Moreland and * James Tonson from Beyond Zero Emissions Briefing on three of the key climate campaigns: Replace Hazelwood, 100% Renewables and Beyond Zero Emissions. Role plays and strategy sessions tailored to your own electorate.
